A Rich Racing History

1973 - First official race meeting

Greyhound racing has been a cornerstone of Glenview Park since the first official race meeting on June 28, 1973.

The track was meticulously designed with two circular ends and parabolic curves, ensuring safe racing conditions and minimizing the risk of injury to greyhounds. The original race distances included 298m, 513m, 658m, and 730m, offering a variety of competitive formats for trainers and participants.

2014- Major Redevelopment and Upgrades

The venue underwent a significant transformation in 2014, with the final race on the original track held on May 29. Shortly after, Greyhound Racing Victoria, in collaboration with the State Government, approved a $6 million redevelopment project to modernize the facility.

2007 - State-of-the-art kennel complex unveiled

In September 2007, a $1.2 million, state-of-the-art kennel complex was unveiled in Traralgon, setting a world-class standard for animal welfare and care. This facility reinforced Glenview Park’s commitment to providing the highest quality environment for greyhounds.

Located in the heart of Gippsland

Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club has played an important role in Victorian greyhound racing for decades, earning a reputation for innovation, safety improvements and a commitment to the future of the sport.

The club has continually evolved to meet the changing needs of greyhound racing. A major milestone came in 2015, when the venue underwent a significant $6.2 million redevelopment. The upgrade modernised facilities and track design, reinforcing Traralgon’s position as a key regional racing venue and providing an improved experience for participants, patrons and greyhounds alike.

Continuing its focus on innovation and safety

Racing returned to Traralgon in January 2022 following the introduction of a new “J-curve” track design. Developed to enhance safety outcomes, the state-of-the-art layout features a straight section that transitions into a gentle bend, designed to reduce pressure on greyhounds and improve racing conditions. This design reflected the club’s forward-thinking approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

Like many tracks across Australia, Traralgon has undergone further reviews, upgrades and temporary closures in recent years, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the highest safety standards. These improvements demonstrate the club’s commitment to the welfare of greyhounds and the long-term sustainability of racing at the venue.

Traralgon Cup

Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club is also home to the annual Traralgon Cup, a highlight on the Victorian greyhound racing calendar. The event attracts strong competition and local community support, showcasing the region’s passion for greyhound racing.

Today, Traralgon Greyhound Racing Club continues to play a valuable role within the Gippsland community and the wider Victorian racing industry. With a history built on innovation, investment and a focus on safety, the club remains committed to delivering competitive racing while supporting participants, owners, trainers and the local community for years to come.
